Circle in the sand

This is from September. A small, big drawing that connects with the Moon drawings, the #495Moons, and a gathering of time, and space... creating a space. I've been working on a few ideas associated with this, a slight step out of my normal but interesting to pursue.

In the past I have made circles with string, to sit in and give myself permission to be still. By drawing that line on the floor I created a boundary.  I felt enclosed, even when in the open, somehow protected.

I think like many creatives at this time I am considering how strange making Art can feel in the face of sadness, fear and injustice in the world.  There is a sense of helplessness.  I can't physically protect anyone else with this. How can me making gestures on a canvas, drawing a line on the ground, help? What is it's intention?  Except that it means Art exists, even if you don't think of this as Art. Thought exists.  It feels like a privilege but it also feels like a protest, an addition to the campaign to say these are the things I believe in and connects us as humans.

With Art comes beauty and optimism, exploration, connection, communication of ideas, clarity and so much more. Even if it's just a line in the sand...
